As an aspiring white girl rapper myself (*cough*) I dig any chick that can flaunt a mean rhyme. It’s even better if she has a mad sense of style and absolutely no fear when it comes to expressing her sexuality. Behold, Pu$$y, the YouTube phenom (its srsly gone nuts in the space of 1 month), by mizz Iggy Azalea.
It was another megababe with a mic, Chaingang lead singer Hayley Foster who alerted me to this Australian MC… Yep, that’s right, Australian, who’s being touted as our homegrown “answer to Kreayshawn”. Hmmm… I don’t know about that. If her YouTube Channel is anything to go by, she’s certainly got the grimy cuss-cuss factor down pat, with no shortage of valiant vulgarity – and she rolls with a mean crew, but I don’t think the two can be compared… firstly their rhythm and phrasing are completely different, as are the lyrics and use of samples. As far as I’m concerned it’s just this stoopid ass inherent societal need to have a vague reference point to something else when it comes to new artists. Same goes with Minaj, Uffie, Ke$ha, Peaches and any other femme MC that you’d like to compare her to… Don’t.
I think Iggy is boss. The only thing that does kinda turn me off is this false accent she’s got goin on. What happened to repping the home town girl!? Fair enough as Aussie’s we’re totally influenced by customs from other, more media-prolific countries, which can impact our vernacular (hell, it’s all over this blog y’all), but she’s blatantly putting on some sorta Cali-swag vox in her tracks. I hear she’s been living in the States since she was 16, and is based in LA so I guess that has something to do with it, but the natural accent she rocks when actually speaking in her vids is so much more befitting. Unless ‘Iggy Azalea’ is just one of many mega talented, ferocious blonde Australian actors trying to make a name for herself up in da Holly’hood?? Anythings possible.
But, whatevs, I’m liking follow up track D.R.U.G.S. a little more… and as of today, it’s notched up nearly 23,000 views within 5 days of going live !!!
